Walkabout Cultural Adventures are the tours operated by Juan Walker, a sole trade operator who has been guiding in the region for 10 years. Juan prides himself on providing top quality service, information and guiding. The business is initially focussing on providing tours within Kuku Yalanji country, providing a unique tour focusing on Aboriginal culture, significant sites, environmental information and local tourist attractions, whilst being an educational and interpersonal Aboriginal experience. Juan’s ambition to further develop the business and create employment for further Aboriginal youths, proud to share their land and culture. Tours focus on experiencing a truly unique cultural and interpretive soft adventure tour, which is small and personalised travelling in a comfortable 4WD vehicle. in BRIEF Business Name: Walkabout Cultural Adventures Products and Services: Juan Walker, member of the Kuku Yalanji people, takes guests through his ancestral country around Daintree, up to Bloomfield, and down to Port Douglas. He shares the stories, history, culture and traditions of the people, the way of the land, and visits many culturally significant sites as well as tourist attractions. Guests can even try spear throwing, traditional hunting, and some bush tucker. Tours run daily, Monday to Sunday and guests are picked up from their accommodations in Port Douglas, Mossman and Daintree. All other guests should self drive to Mossman for collection. Business Structure and Ownership: Juan Walker launched Walkabout Cultural Adventures in 2008, operating primarily from the Daintree Eco Lodge & Spa, and is now open to bookings from other accommodations, booking offices, and travel companies. Juan is a sole trader and operator. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Involvement: Juan is from the Kuku Yalanji people, with traditional tribal boundaries from Archer Point to Yule Point. Juan’s heritage is a mixture of Aboriginal, Thursday Islander (Torres Strait Islander) and European. Funding Sources: Juan has created this business without the assistance of any external funding. He is currently working in a number of positions in attempt to fund his business, and takes as many bookings as he can, whilst also employed by external companies as an employee and/ or contractor.
